New trailer for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for the fantasy  King Arthur: Legend of the Sword [KARTH].  Charlie Hunnam [CHUNN] stars as the rightful heir to the throne who must rise from the streets to seize the Excalibur and take back the crown from his uncle who had his father murdered.  Directed by Guy Ritchie [GRITC],  King Arthur: Legend of the Sword opens on May 12th.

Box Score: Lego Batman holds back newcomers

The three new offerings for the Presidents Day holiday fizzled as The LEGO Batman Movie [LBATM] held the top spot with $42.5 million over the 4-day weekend.  The animated film has amassed $107.1 million.

50 Shades Darker [50SH2] also remained in second place at $23.3 million.  The romance sequel has whipped up nearly  $92.0 million.

Warner Bros. has unveiled the teaser trailer for the comedy The House [THOUS].  Will Ferrell [WFERR] and Amy Poehler [APOEH] star as parents who lose their daughter's college fund.  They decide to start an illegal casino in the basement of his neighbor's house in order to earn it back.  The House opens on June 30th.

Paramount has uploaded the official trailer for the live-action adaptation Ghost in the Shell [GSHEL] based on the seminal Japanese sci-fi animated/manga series.  Scarlett Johansson [SJOHA] stars as a cyborg in an elite anti-terrorist Section 9 who must stop an organization that wants to sabotage advancements in artificial intelligence technology.  Ghost in the Shell opens wide on March 31th.

Box Score: Lego Batman tops Fifty Shades

Three new releases powered the weekend box office led by The LEGO Batman Movie [LBATM] with an estimated $55.6 million.   The animated spin-off of The LEGO Movie drew a broad audience that was 52% female and 52% over the age of 25.

Fifty Shades Darker [50SH2] opened in second place with $46.8 million, well short of original's $85 million.  The sequel skewed 70% female and should receive a Valentine's Day bump on Tuesday.
