First Trailer for Letters to Juliet

Knowing they have a captive target audience, Summit is putting trailers for seemingly all its upcoming releases in front of The Twilight Saga: New Moon [TWLI2].  Proving no exception to the typical romantic comedy, Letters to Juliet [LJULT] gives away the whole movie in the trailer.   Amanda Seyfried [ASEYF] finds a 50-year-old love letter and sets out to reunite the author with her lost love in Italy.  And it just so happens the woman has a grandson for her to fall in love with during the...

Whisper Numbers: New Moon may eclipse Transformers for best 2009 opening weekend.

Twilight fanatics have gone into pandemonium in anticipation for the sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon [TWLI2].  Even thought Twilight open to $69.6 million last year, its mostly female fanbase has reached the level of the Harry Potter series.  The PG-13 rated romance has sold the most advance ticket sales ever for Movietickets.com and Fandango, topping the previous number one Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.  Summit brought on new director Chris Weitz [CWEIT] to expand the...

First trailer for Remember Me

Before you get settled in to experience The Twilight Saga: New Moon [TWLI2], Summit Entertainment would like you to see the trailer for Remember Me [REMBR], their next romance starring Edward Cullen, I mean Robert Pattinson [RPATT].  The teen heartthrob looks to demonstrate his acting chops playing a brooding college student dealing with a personal tragedy.   Pattinson gets to act angry while rebelling against his father, played by Pierce Brosnan [PBROS], and be sensitive while bonding with...

Weekend Pass: Of Astronauts and Aliens

Even as throngs of morose, heavy-eyelinered female teenagers haunt the night camping out for the vampire event known as The Twilight Saga: New Moon [TWIL2], there are actually other new offerings in theaters this weekend.  Some say the second tale in the Twilight series will be the movie event of the year, but that doesn’t mean other films can’t have a day as well.

The weekend also caters to parents of young kids who will have a new animated film to appreciate.  Planet 51 [PLT51]...

New Trailer for Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

Moviegoers will be getting a double dose of Greek mythology and Perseus in 2010.  A new trailer has appeared online for Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief [PJALT], which is going by the shorter title Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief for international markets.  The trailer expands on the story, basically Harry Potter meets Clash of the Titans [CLASH], ironically opening just a month after The Lightning Thief

First trailer for The Last Song

If you are a fan of movies based on Nicholas Sparks novels and Miley Cyrus [MCYRU], then you will love the new trailer for The Last Song [LSONG].  The Disney film stars Cyrus as a rebellious teenager from New York who has to spend the summer down south with her estranged father, a concert pianist played by Greg Kinnear [GKINN].   But if you are not a fan of Nicholas Sparks movies or Miley Cyrus, then you kill two birds with one stone by avoiding The Last Song.

The Last Song will actually ...

First trailer for Crazy Heart

Fox Searchlight has unveiled the trailer for their last minute awards contender Crazy Heart [CRZHT] online at Apple.   Jeff Bridges [JBRID] plays a hard-living, down on his luck country singer in a feature role that many are already calling this year's The Wrestler.   The drama was given its December 16th release date just last week.  Without a Slumdog Millionaire or The Wrestler this year, Fox Searchlight looks to put their Oscar push behind Crazy Heart.

Box Score: 2012 destroys the weekend box office competition.

Moviegoers openly embraced the end of the world as the disaster film 2012 [2012S] swept up an estimated $65 million in its debut.  Roland Emmerich [REMME] delivered the digital mayhem audiences have come to expect from the director of Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.  The Sony film tapped into people's fascination with apocalyptic prophecies tied to the Mayan calendar.

A Christmas Carol [CAROL] enjoyed a strong hold, tailing off just 26% from its opening weekend.  The CG...

First trailer for Grown Ups

Knowing they're now too old to still be playing the perpetual man-childs (man-children?), Adam Sandler [ASAND], Chris Rock [CROCK], Kevin James [KJAME], David Spade [DSPAD] and Rob Schneider [RSCHN] have decided to be Grown Ups [GRWUP].  Unfortunately, five comedians in one film does not mean five times the laughs.  Maturity seems to have suck the funny out of their bones as evident in the trailer for what looks to be a bland and generic comedy.

Whisper Numbers: 2012 is set to wipe out the box office.

The master of disaster films, director Roland Emmerich [REMME] is back with another doomsday scenario to destroy the world.  Inspired by the end date of the Mayan calendar, 2012 [2012S] chronicles a chain of natural disasters worldwide that is about to end humankind.   The PG-13 rated film employs the usual formula of focusing on one believer trying to save his family, here headed by John Cusack [JOHNC], as everyone else falls by the wayside.  Who cares about the billions of other lives? ...
