this seems to happen every few years.
a new wave of players have joined the game and are eager to learn everything about the game and are asking a lot of questions. older players are not so eager to teach EVERYTHING and explain EVERY post to the newer players. that starts a riff.
newer players start to express frustration on the boards and the middle generation feels the need to step up and help the newer players. not that there is anything wrong with that. but the middle generation starts to claim "authority" by answering questions and making statements which further bothers the older generation (cause they used to be the authorities).
the older generation responds by watching the boards like a hawk and pouncing on every mistake made by the middle generation and the middle generation feels the need to fight back (so they can keep their new "authority" in the eyes of the new generation.) this furthers the riff because the new generation has been communicating and helped by the middle generation and so the new generation blindly takes the middle generation side and the older generation takes this as being disrespected.
because the older generation feels disrespected they either leave the game, decide to only lurk on the boards and/or cut down on their postings and/or watch the boards even more like a hawk and pounce even harder on any mistakes made.
because the older generation backs off and posts less, the middle generation attempt to fill their spots (posting most of the news; calling out players on the boards; claiming more authority with their predictions, etc...) but are new at most of that stuff and make mistakes... which the older generation pounces on.
rinse.... repeat.
most players are not aware of this cycle until they move from one generation to the next. the newer players will eventually become the middle generation and start to feel sorry for the players that come after them and start critisizing the players that helped them (who are now in the older generation) for not helping the next new generation.
the current middle generation will eventually become part of the old generation and will start to get irritated when the players that they trained/helped out start claiming authority on the boards and will start pouncing on their mistakes.
the current older generation will eventually mellow or be offended and decide to lessen their participation on the HSX Boards and become less of a presence at HSX. Many times the players who have moved into the older generation reevaluate the amount of time they spend at HSX and realign their priorities and spend less time on the HSX Boards claiming that they are now spending more of their time focused on their real life (careers, family, marriage, real life hobbies, health issues, etc..)
when catzan moved into the middle generation he dominated the news posting. that lasted a couple of years until he moved into the older generation (because he got busy with his career)
paul2K took over catzan's slot in the middle generation and dominated the news posting. this has lasted about a year or so. paul2k has now moved into the older generation with the recent birth of his child (congrats dude!).
now it seems that Rocket (PVL League Admin) is trying to take over paul2k's slot in the middle generation and has recently been more active in posting news. Good luck Rocket... and have fun. You will get more people focusing on you and it might seem like people are being harder on you. But you used to post less news... so you got less correction. Now if you are choosing to post more news understand you should be recieving more correction. Personally, I try my best to not let the correction (people trying to help you) or the criticism (people NOT trying to help you, but still want to point out your mistakes) get to me. I take the useful feedback and try to improve myself and do my best to ignore the comments that are not helpful.
PS sooner or later (probally in a year or two) Rocket will join the older generation and when somebody else starts something similar to his current value leagues to help newer players, Rocket will make comments and comparisons to the effort that he made in Port Value Leagues.
Bookmark this post Rocket... it will happen eventually! lol
the middle generation had Paul2k; the older generation had catzan; the new generation is reading this and asking themselves.. "What is a Catzan?"; the anchient generation had their fembot....
