CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Lions Gate Entertainment's (LGF) "The Hunger Games" grossed $19.74 million in midnight screenings Friday morning, the studio said. The widely-anticipated film, based on the first in a trilogy of sci-fi novels by Suzanne Collins, is primed for "a weekend tally that will rank among some of the top debuts of all time," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Hollywood.com's box-office division. "Hunger Games" turned in the biggest midnight debut gross for a non-sequel in film history, Dergarabedian added.
