What I appreciate about "The Ice Storm," and I can see in the others ("Brokeback Mountain" and "Crouching...", too) is...
... how patient and attentive Lee can be in showing people struggling; struggling with intimacy, or decision-making. I was too young for key parties, but I think he captures the feel of the 1970s (dispirited, enthusiastic, creepy, haunted) really well.
I like the score, too, the shakuhachi flute; and Tan Dun's score for "Crouching..."

i hate sitting through other peoples struggles, misery, hardships, etc (unless there is a Rocky style happy ending :) Jun 14, 07:58
