This had a massive effect on Friday and Saturday numbers.
Sales were droppping big time Friday afternoon and evening. TDKR made about 30 million on midnights but could only manage about 45 for the rest of the day. The drop off was big, and we saw it unfold as the opening day and weeend estimates kept on dropping.
As for the summer tentpole, I think this will definatly effect the rest of this summer's box office, but by the time Hobbit rolls around this should be a memory. However, midnight screenings will never be the same again.
