CAA, which reps Cross Creek, has approached client Tom Cruise about the project, according to another source (Levinson directed Cruise in Rain Man). But a Cross Creek source says the financiers are trying to find a solution with Depp. The actor would earn somewhere around $15 million if the two sides can come to terms.

From Johnny Depp to Tom Cruise. Don't think I've ever heard that substitution before. :-) {nm}   KalElFan on Jun 05, 11:22

Cruise seems like the wrong choice here...Bulger is a Boston guy, so Matt Damon seems like an obvious fallback {nm}   lapuckfan on Jun 05, 11:24

The could also try cheaper actors who've played gangsters, wise guy types, etc. in the past. I don't see this movie having huge upside. {nm}   KalElFan on Jun 05, 11:28

They not the. For some reason I'm thinking Ray Liotta might work well in this. {nm}   KalElFan on Jun 05, 11:30

he's probably too old for the younger days {nm}   lapuckfan on Jun 05, 11:34

Only 8-9 years older than Cruise and Depp, and Liotta's from Jersey which I think of as akin to Boston in some ways. :-) {nm}   KalElFan on Jun 05, 11:41

Änd makeup can do wonders these days. :-) {nm}   KalElFan on Jun 05, 11:42

Bulger is probably in his mid 30s at the beginning of the story, makeup can only do so much...a lot easier to make someone look older {nm}   lapuckfan on Jun 05, 12:27

Liotta can't sell tickets. The oversea financers need an A-lister. {nm}   Antibody on Jun 05, 11:44

But apparently won't pay A-lister prices. And I doubt this is ever doing $10M let alone $20M salary business. {nm}   KalElFan on Jun 05, 11:50

good supporting actor, but I don't think he can carry a film on his own. When was he last the lead in a successful film? {nm}   tatoufan on Jun 05, 11:46

I guess it depends what they realistically expect from what might otherwise be a TV movie. If he's right for the role, maybe Liotta...    KalElFan on Jun 05, 11:52

... can carry a movie like this to $25M+ domestic, maybe more if it's good and Universal really backed it. {nm}   KalElFan on Jun 05, 11:55

When in doubt....DDAYL He can play anything. {nm}   StarBondFund on Jun 05, 12:15
