Jean Grey turning into the Phoenix is more "hero becomes villain", as opposed to "protagonist becomes cold, calculating morally-ambiguous

hero", which is what seems to be happening here. My guess is that the story takes her to the brink of losing her humanity, only for her to find it in the last act and restore her moral compass. That old cliche.

As for my Bourne comparison, I wasn't specifically thinking of the acts we saw him portray in the flashbacks...more about the type of person and "agent" that he and the rest of the Treadstone guys were. Give them an objective, and they would do what was necessary and injure/kill whoever was in the way to complete the objective.

The examples I can think of of "heroes" injuring or killing innocents don't quite fit the comp with Lucy. George Clooney in "The American" is  more anti-hero than Lucy, I think. Deniro and Pfeiffer in "The Family" are rather loathsome protagonists, and definitely not in the same boat. Although, now that I think about it, Besson (who gave us Lucy and The Family) seems to relish churning out anti-heroes and ne'er do wells as main characters who have questionable moral compasses.

Anyone finds it disturbing that LUCY shoots an innocent Taxi driver for not speaking English in the trailer/commercial? Antibody Jul 09, 16:09

Yes! {nm} GMov Jul 09, 16:10

well its just in the leg. But, i think it could be taken as more she shot him cuz he wasnt being helpful and she didnt want to waste time {nm} islander Jul 09, 16:24

She could shoot a tire. The trailer/commerical cuts off the subtitle, so you previously thought she killed him. {nm} Antibody Jul 09, 16:33

You're looking for morality from an R rated action film? Try VeggieTales. islander Jul 09, 16:51

Can you name another movie hero/heroine that has done the same when there are non-violent alternatives? {nm} Antibody Jul 09, 16:56

The 1st trailer seems to be saying that, as she starts accessing more parts of her brain, she fears she's becoming less human. Paul2k Jul 09, 17:25

i think y'all are overthinking this. a guy gets shot in the leg in a movie for a poor reason. so what? thats hardly the worst thing thats ev horrorfanatic Jul 09, 17:45

its thats the true context, its worst than "poor". {nm} Moviesnob Jul 09, 17:52

well yeah, i worded that badly....the point i was trying to make was that worse things have been done by the "heroes" of many movies, whys t horrorfanatic Jul 09, 18:01
