I know you're biased, but putting it in Lakeline was a mistake. The audience for Snowpiercer here was Ritz/SoLa/Slaughter.

Posted by: MiyazakiFan on Jul 12, 18:49 in response to Moviesnob's post Alamo Lakeline is not a second rate theater. SIFF uptown...

Was terribly disappointed to not see this in the theatre but an over 45 mile roundtrip drive from South Lamar just ain't happening.

A quick look at limited release movies that averaged between 20k and 25k opening weekend so far this year. Moviesnob Jul 12, 15:11

nice stats, thanks. also, Boyhood is going to explode it seems {nm} lobogotti Jul 12, 15:26

The mismanagement of Snow Piercer was complete PRIOR to Radius having anything to do with it. It was bargain binned by then and done already goodvibe61 Jul 12, 15:33

Radius and companies of the like are not bargain bin. Look, I understand its frustrating that movies you like dont appeal to the masses Moviesnob Jul 12, 15:48

NOBODY at Radius made the decision that the movie would be distributed by Radius. NOBODY. {nm} goodvibe61 Jul 12, 15:50

Now you're lying. Radius BEGGED for this movie. The went to CJ and Joon Ho Bong and together they convinced TWC this was the right way to Moviesnob Jul 12, 15:53

I agree that they begged. I disagree that they made any decisions. {nm} goodvibe61 Jul 12, 16:03

Yeah, in fact, they are. Many, many theaters will NOT show the movie once the decision is to go VOD. goodvibe61 Jul 12, 16:30

I work for an exhibitor that regularly has success with collapsed titles, most recently Nymphomaniac and Blue Ruin. Moviesnob Jul 12, 16:38

How does VOD equal inferior quality? I never said that. Don't put words in my mouth. goodvibe61 Jul 12, 16:54

you're the one calling radius bargin bin. You are the one suggesting snowpiercer is less than Tammy because its not receiving a wide Moviesnob Jul 12, 17:07

It did? Where did Memories of Murder get shown? I never got to see it in a theater. What did it get, one screen? goodvibe61 Jul 12, 17:23

it got the release that matched the demand. And yeah, most of us like being part of the solution, not the problem. Moviesnob Jul 12, 17:27

No i'm not. I'm saying that SnowPiercer is 100 x the Tammy's of the world, and the public should get the chance to choose to see it. goodvibe61 Jul 12, 23:04

we'll just have to disagree about Snowpiercer's inherent demand and whether the current numbers back in up. Its easy to bash TWC but they Moviesnob Jul 13, 00:08

The films you mentioned opened in popular theaters. "Snowpiercer" opened in mostly second-tier theaters. {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 17:58

Angleika NY is not a second rate theater. {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 18:10

Alamo Lakeline is not a second rate theater. SIFF uptown is not a second rate theater. SF Metreon is a high volume first rate theater {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 18:13

Lincoln Center is one of the most prestigious theaters in the US. {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 18:14

Lincoln Center only gave small screen to "Snowpiercers" {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 18:17

And in the opening weekend, "Snowpiercer" actually over-performed in its theaters. Peterlee Jul 12, 18:19

All the theaters at Lincoln Center are small!!! Its did $16k. the next highest gross that weekend was $2500 {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 18:22

sorry if I was woefull wrong, but again "Snowpiercer" actually over-performed in its theaters in opening weekends (and second weekend) Peterlee Jul 12, 18:34

Have to left home right now.... But in "The Raid 2" opening weekend, Arclight actually gave three screens to the film {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 18:37

thats a valid point. it did $52k at arclight opening weekend. So you are right, it left some money on the table {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 18:40

if your point is that it could have opened at lets say $40k if it played at Arclight or AMC NY please show some numbers that show that. {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 18:38

Have to left home right now.... But in "The Raid 2" opening weekend, Arclight actually gave three screens to the film {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 18:40

SOrry.... I keep posting my reply in wrong place..... I will join discuss again when I go home.... {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 18:41

CGV on Western in LA also opening T4 the same weekend to $40k that weekend. National average that weekend was $23,633 {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 18:17

opening = opened {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 18:25

btw, CGV is owned by CJ entertainment, who produced the film. thats why it played there {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 18:28

I know you're biased, but putting it in Lakeline was a mistake. The audience for Snowpiercer here was Ritz/SoLa/Slaughter. MiyazakiFan Jul 12, 18:49

Angleika NY isn't. but it only gave one screen to "Snowpiercer" (and two screens to "Being Again" ) Peterlee Jul 12, 18:15

it was a four wall...still your statement is woefully inaccurate. these are all strong theaters I just cited. Moviesnob Jul 12, 18:19

quick look at the theaters from those other titles show 76% crossover with the theaters Snowpiercer opened in the first 4 weeks. Moviesnob Jul 12, 18:35
