An Italian opera thesis, early nineteenth century.

I worked on Rossini's non-comic operas and scenes of female public speech, i.e., scenes in which female characters have strong public voices. In Rossini's adaptation of "Othello," there is a page in the autograph manuscript where Rossini scribbled the phrase "colpo di vento" (a gust of wind) across the orchestral score, and so I thought of borrowing Allen's exit line ("wouldn't it be great...") as a kind of lament, i.e., "wouldn't it be nice if composers always added verbal captions in their orchestral scores so we knew what was what." :)
