Nobody can seem to get reasonable at this point. It's ridiculous. At the root of it, it's pretty simple.
Like many hit films in our past, the original Ghostbusters has lots of fans.
For a long time those fans asked for a second sequel, a Ghostbusters 3. And when I say a long time, I mean a LONG TIME.
It was imperative for those fans that this sequel also star the original stars, Murray, Ackroyd, Ramis, Hudson.
For decades Murray didn't want to go there, and Ramis, in spite of all the opportunities, did not push it since Murray didn't want to do it.
Then Ramis passed away, it was really assumed at that time that the idea of another sequel was finally laid to rest with Mr. Ramis.
But now, on the fast track after his passing, comes this new Ghostbusters. Fans of the original don't think it's such a hot idea after everything that had gone down.
And here's the thing: It doesn't matter one bit WHO the stars of this movie are. Male or female it would not have mattered one bit. The fact that it's not the original cast is the point. It could have been Kevin Hart, Jim Carrey, Eddie Murphy, Tom Hanks, Ice Cube, or the ladies that are actually cast in the picture, whoever was cast was going to be considered a lousy idea by the fans of the original two Ghostbusters films, because literally for decades the fans were hoping for Murray and his crew.
But nobody wants to run with that. Instead, we've got this whole male/female angle worked up now, ratcheted up to volume 11. Hate piled on hate. So stupid. Such a waste of time. It's very, VERY reminiscent of the whole Oscar fiasco, it's all in very bad taste.
Hopefully people will go see this new Ghostbusters, and hopefully it will be a funny movie. It is what it is; it's not Murray and crew starring. It's this new thing. Take it for what it is.
