There are plenty of "in-development" films that have been at that stage of development for 3 years or more, with the SAME director listed for all those years--when yeah, the director's already moved on.
And in some cases, directors are "tentatively announced," or a deal is BEING struck, but never confirmed until someone else is picked.
Rumored and confirmed are two entirely different things.
