Well, a subjective take, but. . .

... I just scrolled though BOM's weekly charts back to 2010, where #1 films are listed on a single page for each year, and I think each year going back to 2010 has had somewhere between 6 and 10 well-made "worthy" #1 films—this year, for example, "The Force Awakens," "The Revenant," "Deadpool," "Zootopia," "The Jungle Book" and "Finding Dory" so far.  So... I dunno.

Did you see Mike Hill's video analysis of "Terminator 2" someone posted at BOT yesterday?

Watched Chinatown yet again tonight. I'm even more awestruck this time around. Towne and Nicholson. Their peak. goodvibe61 Aug 28, 01:44

That's why the 70s was the greatest era in cinema, IMHO {nm} numbersix_99 Aug 28, 02:42

Agreed (list of my favorites inside) ~JPV~ Aug 28, 06:56

You could say that about any genre an then what movies would you have left to make? {nm} JDolphin Aug 28, 13:19

Oops -that was supposed to be in response to Choosenoone post (maybe he has magic powers that stop people responding to his posts :) ) {nm} JDolphin Aug 28, 13:20

I'd only count about 1/3 of your list and add these in JDolphin Aug 28, 13:47

and '75 might have been the best oscars. Chinatown, Conversation and Godfather 2 were all nominated for Best Picture. {nm} Moviesnob Aug 28, 09:53

great film jmt-nl Aug 28, 04:37

funny, was talking about box office performances and how the quality of films have changed in the last 40 years. lobogotti Aug 28, 05:28

6-10 is actually prettyy darn good! I did not see the Hill analysis, got a link handy? {nm} lobogotti Aug 28, 12:50

movies havent changed though. Distribution has {nm} Moviesnob Aug 28, 10:06

its better to say, the overall quality of movies hasnt changed. But distribution has and movies have changed to keep up with those changes. {nm} Moviesnob Aug 28, 10:18

its not the genre that matters. Its the quality. Its like saying Star Wars was solid, but why make another sci-fi film? Moviesnob Aug 28, 10:23

oops response to Chosenone below {nm} Moviesnob Aug 28, 10:24

fosho {nm} lobogotti Aug 28, 12:49

Maybe it's the Millenial in me--"Chinatown" was solid, but what's the use of another mystery/noir? I am still curious about "The Two Jakes". {nm} chosenone2oo5 Aug 28, 10:16
