BTW, [PRSIA] screened at ShoWest yesterday... (no spoilers but caveat emptor!)
and to say that the reaction was muted would be an understatement. The movie did not go over well at all... very little laughter during the "funny bits" (nothing between Jake and Gemma Arterton worked)... none of the applause and audience participation these movies usually get. The whole thing just felt flat and people were streaming out of the theater so fast you'd think it was on fire. Toy Story 3, Kick-Ass and Karate Kid all went over like gangbusters and the audience was really into them.
Listen, it looks great and it's not terrible but it feels a lot longer than it is, there's a lot of exposition and I'm not sure that anyone in the 17 to 30 range will think much of it so WOM will be bleh... it's also opening against Sex and the City so it's not going to bring in any women over 14 or 15... and it's facing the second weekend of Shrek. Being Memorial Day weekend, it probably won't completely bomb since there will be plenty of guys who know the video game checking it out but I would not expect this to be one of the breakout hits of the summer ala Pirates going by what I saw yesterday.
LIke I said, this is just my opinion but I'm not alone on these thoughts.
