Good dissection of episodic content - what works in the form, why its working. Focus is on Stranger Things

also highlights an observation that quality TV shows have replaced the mid range studio film for mainstream audiences.

Whats most interesting is its coming from a point of view of being somewhat critical of long form story telling (it both falls into the trap of being too repititive to fill out 300-600 minutes and requires "plotblocking" -  "I’ve actually found that the shows that are the most “binge-worthy” are the most narratively stingy. You start each new episode almost out of frustration, hoping it will deliver a morsel of satisfaction, an inch of forward progress.") while concluding long form is ultimately most satisfying in terms of storytelling.

All in all, a read worth sharing

It is true that the TV is replacing mid range films. It's ticket prices as well as quality that gives TV the advantage. {nm} leo21 Aug 28, 10:25
