It is part of the secret code controlling prices.
As for how long someone has been here, you can view a player's profile by clicking on their name in a post they made in the forums. Like in the case of this post you'll see at the top a line that starts "Posted by: DTravel on Jun...." You'll notice that my name is underlined and in a different color, meaning it is a hyperlink, in this case to my profile. The same applies to any player's name in any of the HSX pages, like the leaderboards.
