Per tradition, the Hollywood Stock Exchange is offering Holiday Warrants for this year. The start of the Holiday season came when Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (HWMA2) opened with $63 million. Last weekend, 007 made a splash with Quantum of Solace (HWQOS) when it opened with $67 million. Let's take a look at what audiences can expect this holiday season.
From malls to theaters, young women everywhere are screaming their heads off. It seems the young, British lad Robert Pattinson has woven a spell so strong, that his upcoming film Twilight (HWTWI) is threatening to become one of the biggest films of the season. The wildy popular teen novel series centers on a vampire who falls in love with a female mortal, played by the comely Kristen Stewart (KSTEW).
Early December sees the release of the remake of the sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still (HWDES). Keanu Reeves plays a rather attractive alien who awes humans with his powers. But he also has a clear message for mankind. Behave yourselves or be destroyed! Not exactly frilly holiday fare, but Earth is still a major blockbuster production that has high ambitions for box office take. Of course it helps a great deal that Jennifer Connelly (JCONN) also stars in the film along with Will Smith's (WSMIT) little kid Jaden (JSMIT).
Speaking of Will Smith, it's hard not to find this man in at least one blockbuster season throughout the year. His Seven Pounds (HW7LB) is about a man on the brink of suicide when he meets and falls in love with a beautiful woman. That woman is none other than the lovely Rosario Dawson (RDAWS) who has probably brought back many an unhappy man from the brink of destruction. The man now has a reason to live and Sony hopes a reason for movie-goers to come to this showing on its opening weekend.
Brad Pitt (BPITT) undergoes a major transformation in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (HWCBB). He is born an old born and ages backwards, while the rest of the world gets older. The film has already gotten buzz for its dramatic performances.
Adam Sandler (ASAND) just wants to entertain his niece and nephew but finds his words are much more powerful than he believed. In Bedtime Stories (HWBED), Sandler realizes his stories start coming to life. The film's good-natured fun is expected to be a huge draw this holiday season. Keri Russell (KERUS) and British comedian Russell Brand (RBRAN) co-star.
Finally, Tom Cruise (TCRUI) sports an eyepatch for the dark drama Valkyrie (HWVAL). The story of the German who tried to take out Adolf Hitler was moved and moved and finally rests at a late December release date.
Stay current on this year's biggest release with the 2008 Holiday Warrants.
