Anthony Minghella is best known for 1996's most decorated film, The English Patient, which he directed and wrote. The movie earned Minghella an Oscar for Best Director and an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Minghella has followed that film with another tour de force effort in writing and directing, The Talented Mr. Ripley, for which he has garnered a Golden Globe nomination for Best Director.
