Chris Columbus began life in Hollywood as a screenwriter with hits such as Gremlins and The Goonies. He began directing with Adventures in Babysitting and scored his first blockbuster in 1990 with Home Alone. Other hits such as Mrs. Doubtfire and the Harry Potter series should keep him on top of Tinseltown for a while.
