Once upon a time there was a perfect relationship between two perfect performers. The year was 1997 and Brad Pitt and Gwyenth Paltrow were Hollywood's happiest couple and Daddy Paltrow suggested that they all do a movie together. Everyone said yes and the picture moved forward.
Then Gwenyth and Brad decided that their lives would be better apart and Bruce Paltrow, looking out for his daughter's feelings, pulled the plug on the project.
1997 passed and Columbia/Sony allowed Paltrow to shop the film elsewhere. Scott Free Productions, Ridley Scott and son Tony's production company, picked up the project when Buena Vista picked up international distribution rights.
So casting began in earnest, sort of, and a year later the film is well into production. Gwenyth remains as the female lead with Scott Speedman, Ben on the WB's Felicity, playing opposite. Other cast members include Maria Bello, Andre Braugher, Paul Giamatti, and Huey Lewis. Your eyes aren't fooling you, Huey Lewis of the '80s pop band Huey Lewis and the News, will play in Duets.
So what's the film all about? Duets follows a group of folks all making a pilgrimage to Omaha, Nebraska for a karaoke competition. Each character has their own specific way of hustling karaoke competitions.
Could this be The Color of Money for the karaoke world?
