The life story of notorious Irish crime lord Martin Cahill is told in a film that opens with his assassination outside his home in Dublin in 1994. The film then follows Cahill from bassinet to grave and his rise from petty thief mob boss. Jon Voight plays Cahill's familiar arch-nemesis in the police department. Shot in black and white and directed by John Boorman, the film is "more about the rebellious Irish psyche than a heap of overtly political films."
