Description
Based on his small but noteworthy performance in 1964's Lillith, Gene Hackman landed a choice role opposite Warren Beatty in 1967's Bonnie and Clyde. Given this first real chance to shine, Hackman delivered a strong performance and received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Hackman's career took another leap in 1971, with his Oscar-winning lead as Popeye Doyle in The French Connection. The '70s and '80s included roles in such films as Superman and Hoosiers, culminating in Hackman's Academy Award nominations for 1988's Mississippi Burning. Hackman won his second Oscar -- this time for Best Supporting Actor -- in the 1992 western, Unforgiven.
