Description
Based on a novel by Stephen King, The Green Mile chronicles the lives of inmates and guards in a 1930's prison. When it is discovered that one of the death row inmates has healing powers, the film focuses on the resulting moral dilemma. Paul Edgecombe (Tom Hanks) is the head prison guard and the central figure of the movie, which was written and directed by Frank Darabont. The Green Mile is familiar territory for Darabont, who also wrote and directed 1994's The Shawshank Redemption. For King, The Green Mile is but another screen adaptation in a long line of story credits. Published in 1996, "The Green Mile" won the Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel.
