Description

The identity of the young maiden in Vermeer's painting "The Girl With a Pearl Earring" has inspired many theories over the years. The film is based on a novel by Tracy Chevalier, which speculates that the girl was Vermeer's servant. Her calm demeanor attracted the painter's interest and she became the subject in his work. Unfortunately, the extra attention Vermeer gives the girl does not please his jealous wife. Colin Firth plays Vermeer while Scarlett Johansson plays his maid.Peter Webber directs the drama adapted by Olivia Hetreed.
