Description
Gus Van Sant has earned considerable respect as a director of both independent films and mainstream crowd-pleasers. Van Sant started out in Hollywood as a production assistant, and had his directorial debut in 1985 with Mala Noche. Van Sant's followed up his successful debut with the even more successful independent films Drugstore Cowboy and My Own Private Idaho. 1997 was a breakout year for the director, who helmed the Academy Award winning film Good Will Hunting.
