Description
A stand-up comedian since her days at Providence College, Janeane Garofalo has often been named as the spokesperson for Generation X. Although she does not like the title, Garofalo's acerbic brand of humor -- coupled with her film debut in 1994's Reality Bites -- has typified the disenchantment of America's twenty-somethings. Garofalo received her start in show business in 1992, with a part on Fox's short-lived The Ben Stiller Show. After turns on Saturday Night Live and The Larry Sanders Show, Garofalo's film career began to take hold. Her on-screen breakthrough came in 1996, opposite Uma Thurman in The Truth about Cats & Dogs. With several guest-starring roles to her credit as well, Garofalo also appeared on the series finale of TV's Mad about You in 1999.
