Description
With a signature style that has influenced the likes of Quentin Tarantino, director John Woo is the undisputed master of the Hong Kong action movies. Although Woo has been directing films since 1973's The Young Dragons, he first achieved international notoriety with his 1986 film A Better Tomorrow. Woo followed this effort with such neo-action classics as 1989's The Killer and 1992's Hard-boiled. The director began his foray into American cinema with 1993's Hard Target and 1994's Broken Arrow. The release of 1997's Face/Off was Woo's first blockbuster, grossing $112 million at the box office. In 2000, Woo's Mission: Impossible 2 made him a Hollywood commodity when it broke the $200-million mark.
