Description
A former cover girl, Kim Basinger spent the early 1970's modeling for hundreds of ads before moving to Los Angeles in 1976. With dreams of becoming an actress, Basinger soon landed several television roles, including an NBC remake of the classic From Here to Eternity in 1980. Basinger was cast as a Bond girl in 1983, opposite Sean Connery in Never Say Never Again. Basinger would continue to star opposite some of Hollywood's most legendary leading men, with a role in the 1984 Robert Redford film, The Natural. However, it was her role opposite Mickey Rourke in the seductive, sexually-charged romantic drama 9 1/2 Weeks which launched her directly into the Hollywood spotlight. She was now one of Hollywood's most popular - and most beautiful - female stars.
After 9 1/2 Weeks, Basinger had a chance to flex her comic talents in the film Blind Date opposite Bruce Willis. On a career high, Basinger was cast as Vicki Vale in the original Batman movie in 1989. Although her subsequent feature films would pale in comparison she did have some performances worth noting, which includes a cameo in Wayne's World 2 and Final Analysis. Basinger reached the zenith of her career thus far in 1997 with a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work in L.A. Confidential. Up next for Basinger is the epic romance-drama I Dreamed of Africa which also stars Vincent Perez. This is Basinger's first role since L.A. Confidential. Basinger is married to fellow thesp, Alec Baldwin. They starred in the the remake of the The Getaway in 1994.
