Description
With early critical success for her roles in 1994's Heavenly Creatures and 1995's Sense and Sensibility, Kate Winslet faced the possibility of being forever type-cast in British period pieces. But despite her subsequent roles in such other period films as Hamlet and Jude, Winslet broke out of the genre with a starring role in a bona fide box- office smash -- 1997's Titanic. Although Winslet's future will undoubtedly include more period dramas, her 1998 role in the hippie travelogue, Hideous Kinky, should secure the actress a future outside the world of corsets and pinafores. More recent films include Quills, Enigma and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
