Description
Born Maurice Micklewhite in 1933, Michael Caine began his film career in the '50s with a series of bit parts in assorted movies. In 1965, Caine got his big break as the spy Harry Palmer in The Icress File. This led to a series of Harry Palmer films in which Caine would reprise the role several more times. In addition to his new-found celebrity as a secret agent, Caine also received quite a bit of attention for his title role in the movie Alfie. The role garnered him critical acclaim and an Oscar nod.
Since his film debut in the early '50s, Caine has starred in over 70 pictures and has become a true icon of the motion picture industry. Caine has been nominated for five Academy Awards and has won twice for Best Supporting Actor in Hannah and Her Sisters (1987) and The Cider House Rules (2000). On June 17, 2000, Caine was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to the performing arts.
