Universal found itself with a new franchise when The Mummy, made on a budget of $80M, grossed over $150M in the U.S. alone. The principals from the 1999 hit, Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Oded Fehr, and director Stephen Sommers all return for the sequel. The mummified Imhotep, played once again by Arnold Vosloo, has been brought to a London museum where he reawakens to terrorize the city.
The Mummy Returns features the film debut of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who was so impressive as the villianous Scorpion King that he will star in his own prequel.
