Description
Born Sally Mahoney in Pasadena, CA, in 1946, Sally Field got her start as America's sweetheart, Gidget, in her own television series. After a few years as a boy-crazed teen and a flying nun, Field earned critical acclaim and an Emmy for her role in the TV movie Sybil in 1977. That year she also proved her box-office appeal when she starred in the hit movie, Smokey and the Bandit. However, despite all of her years in Hollywood, she did not gain a reputation as an A-list actress until her breakthrough role in Norma Rae, a part that earned her an Oscar. In 1984, she won her second Oscar for her work in Places in the Heart. Her more recent projects include Forrest Gump, Where the Heart Is, and Say It Isn't So. Field has also taken over the director's chair with the miniseries From the Earth to the Moon and the movie Beautiful.
