Description
Wes Craven made his feature length debut as a filmmaker with the 1972 cult horror hit, Last House on the Left. Craven would perfect his unique blend of horror, philosophy and humor with the 1984 frightener, A Nightmare on Elm Street. The story of a group of teenagers pursued in their dreams by a clawed killer, Nightmare was a terrifying success. In addition to spawning six sequels and boosting a studio (New Line practically built their offices on Elm Street), Craven's film introduced the character of Freddy Krueger into the American vernacular. After the back-to-back $100 million domestic grosses of Scream and the equally good Scream 2 (1997), Craven was finally in a position to explore filmmaking subjects outside the world of horror.
