Whisper Numbers: Four new films battle for Harry Potter’s leftover.

Even with four new guests at the dinner table for Thanksgiving, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 [HPOT7] looks to gobble up the most box office.  After a franchse best opening weekend, the seventh film is on track to earn around $85 million over the 5-day holiday weekend.

With its wide family appeal, the 3D animated Tangled [RAPUN] should perform best amongst the new wide releases. Originally titled Rapunzel, Disney changed the title and the marketing focus hoping to attract more boys. Opening in 3603 theaters, Tangled may earn $38 million from Wednesday to Sunday.

Burlesque [BURLS] features the film debut of Christina Aguilera and the return of Cher [CHER].  The PG-13 rated musical romance’s appeal appears strictly limited to females.  Showing in 3037 theaters, Burlesque could drop $17 million over the 5-day period.

CBS Films hopes to reach guys with the R-rated actioner Faster [FASTR] starring Dwayne Johnson [TROCK].  Breaking into 2454 theaters, Faster may clock $16 million for the holiday weekend.

Jake Gyllenhaal [JGYLL] and Anne Hathaway [AHATH] are the draw in the romance Love and Other Drugs [LVDRG].   While marketing has focused on the lighter side of the film to go after the dating crowd, the film's R-rating and serious subject matter may limit the audience to mature women. Love and Other Drugs could take in $15 million from 2455 theaters

That’s the whisper from the trading floor.
