Many of these openers are front loaded. In addition, the advent of "midnight" screenings added to the openng day skews the opening day, and the opening weekend, higher, making the 2.7 multiplier much harder to attain, IMHOP.
Avatar was a huge exception, Opening on Christmas weekend held down the first weekend total. Great WOM and BANG! ZOOM! off to the moon of Polyphemus and the rest was history.
