As an older male who still likes super-hero movies, married to an older female who loves action movies with car chases...GATSB sat in
that rocking chair in the one week amongst all the CGI/Sci fi's and gave the more mature movie goers a reason to get out of the house and see a movie. This would have been dead meat if it opened a week earlier, or later.
Oh yes...the book tie-in worked.
