One trailer/ad was a mistake, the hopeless, all is lost" or Into Darkness indeed one as I called it. Darkness is problematic in Trek. {nm}

in response to MiyazakiFan's post Agreed!
BOG: "Sources tell me #StarTrek on course to reach $21-23M FRI. That may put WED-SUN opening in $80-90M range.Expected more."

@ 23 for Friday, it's a toast. Even unrealistic 3.5 IM will not save it....

If Fri's a bit more than BOG says, say $24.4M like STAR2's Fri was, then $90M+ is possible but $80M-ish seems more likely now. {nm}

BOG: If #IntoDarkness stays on current course, 1st 4days will be even w/ last Trek's. Shocking given 3D & aud love for last pic.

poor (poor-ish, relatively) performancce IMO due to secrecy surrounding/ and use of villian. should have just went with it months ago

A theatre attendant (male, maybe 17) asked what I thought this afternoon as we left. I said, well, the title has no meaning.

Yes, 4 years to get to Khan Again and Darkness didn't sell well enough. The suspense is whether this 4-day can beat 2009's 3-day. {nm}

IMO TOS 4 (1986) was better than TOS 2 (Khan, 1982), but 2 is revered as #1 by fanboys. Remaking a revered movie is a bad idea. {nm}

At this distance, I don't think there is a large 1982 fanbase to alienate (and dampen OW). What steps STID takes in the alt-universe...

Trek IV in 1986, adjusted, made almost as much as the 2009 movie. Many kids grew up watching Trek in the 70s. They ain't dead yet. {nm}

There are also many younger fans, SF geeks and so on who know the franchise. Same with Star Wars, Superman and the like. {nm}

The secrecy didn't help, I agree, because core spoilers like who the villain is are inevitable and then the big reveal was Khan Again. {nm}

DL's 6:30 PM PST update says no significant changes in numbers yet. Thanks for the non-info, nikki!

It is kind of informative. Means her sources disagree with BOG.

We're seeing the flip side of lowering expectations for a huge hit. Here, Paramount wants to ease into the $80M disappointment. {nm}

Because DL, THR, V all need their studio sources more than say BOG, they go along with the spin until the studio gives up in this case. {nm}

Crazy, in the lead up I was so certain this would do $100m for the 3-day!

not even 4 weeks ago I still thought it could do 100-125. Personally, I think it was a much better movie than IRNM3 but there are some+++

The first one destroying Vulcan didn't go over well with many, and so Khan Again + more Darkness probably wasn't the best pitch. {nm}
