So hypothetically, what box office effect do you think a dramatic death of, say, Lois Lane would have on Man of Steel? {nm}

None, Wonder Woman is a much better love interest, can kick a$$ and is way hotter. Did I mention she has a whip? :)

One of the reasons I think the death could have a positive effect is just that. They could develop Supes-WW in a JLEAG series. {nm}

It could become another thing distinctive and indeed unique about this Cavill incarnation. {nm}

Interesting that the first two responses were no effect. I actually think it might have an enormously positive box office effect. {nm}

A bigger effect would be to stop using Lex Luthor and General Zod. It's like Trek, we have an entire universe to explore and they (spoiler)

the biggest Batman villain in the Nolanverse was The Joker

Not true. There was plenty of griping, since it had already been done.

There's always griping, but look at the great box office results. Nolan's TDK also killed off Rachel, who was set up well in BB. {nm}

Lois is a lot more iconic and integral to Supes than Rachel (or any Bruce Wayne girlfriend) is to Batman. Plus, they switched Rachels. :)

The more iconic, the more publicity, dramatic impact, etc. :-) Also Holmes becoming a reality TV show may have led to recasting, death. {nm}

And both Batman movies with the Joker are the highest (adjusted) grossing films in the franchise.

Khan in TREK2 was also more a 1:1 remake of 1982. SUPR2 has a chance to be a much better 1978+1980 combo. {nm}

SUPR2 would have many differences from 1978+1980 though. Many were mandated by the fear Warners had of losing the Superman rights. {nm}

Hence costume differences, and killing off Lois and downplaying Clark would help. Basically, Superman had to be Strongman just in case. {nm}

In the end, a 9th Circuit Judge named Otis :-) ruled in favor of Warners a few months back, but Warners didn't know before that. {nm}

none, since they already did it in 1978

In the '78 movie Superman goes back in time to save her. Here, my hypothetical was she'd be dead for good in this incarnation. {nm}

Not likely that DC would allow that.

Could have a negative effect. Everyone's seen that story already.

Actually they've never seen a genuine, permanent death of Lois in any significant incarnation of Superman, and she was there in 1938. {nm}

Exceptions are like the Lois & Clark TV series having a few episodes where Alt-Lois was presumed dead in the alternate universe. {nm}

1) it's comic related so perma death doesn't exist. 2) the audience might see it as the same superman 1 death of louis

Again, purely hypothetical, nothing but the above tea leaves on it. Also, Amy Adams wouldn't even confirm she was signed for sequels. {nm}

Wouldn't effect OW at all. Though how fanboys handle the twist would be interesting to see.

I'd be really sad if Erica Durance or Teri Hatcher would pass away.
