while I believe the critics were/are wrong, I'm not optimistic for the numbers I was predicting. at this point in my opinion, I'm not sure 100M is possible. quite frankly IMO I'm going to be wrong from my predicitons in late April.
first let me say that I saw the film at Hamilton 16 IMAX in Noblesville, IN. IMAX 3D (my showing) sold out in the last 30 minutes. they had three other screens, 2 2D's and and 3D (besides the IMAX 3D).
I always approach the manager on big events like this and ask how sales are. about 50% for the 2Ds and about 10-20% for the 3D. that is not at all what I was expecting based on the marketing and trailer quality.
one good thing this film is going to have for it is WOM. not that it will necessarily rocket the OW, but it's going to help the overall run quite well.
this is a pretty darn good effort for the re-invention of Supes. it's better than the first Spiderman, the first Iron Man, and at this point probably any Marvel film (though I enjoyed the action a tad more in Avengers)....all in my opinion.
the crowd roared at the end with a standing ovation, tons of cheering and clapping. I can't remember the last time I was at a film that got that much applause (probably Avengers, but that was more through the movie than the end of it).
there is no doubt this is a fans film. all day, all night. in this case, IMO you can ignore the movie critics. the movie isn't perfect and could have been a tad shorter, but overall it's a solid B+ film in it's genre. more importantly it felt fresh.
everyone I went with loved it and there are plans from all to see it again. will be interested to see the cinema score. I hope the film does well, some of the stand alone fights scenes are the baddest thing you have ever scene (as good if not better as HULK SMASH).
don't go thinking it's Batman, it's not. IMO slightly better than Begins, but not close to TDK.
Cavill is pretty much the perfect Superman. just so awesome. if anyone else has seen it would love to hear your thoughts.
at this point I just want the film to succeed so we can see what's next in store for the Man of Steel. kudos to Snyder, Goyer and Nolan. I've got something to look forward to in the superhero world of film.
