My MPAA rep has told me that any recording of a movie or part of a movie is illegal. He asked us to stop people from recording trailers or
even just snippets of films playing. I can't recall if TWC is a member of the MPAA, they may not be. But when Ironman 2 trailers were leaked from Comic Con, I know the MPAA was going to ask they be taken down and then Paramount let them know that Paramount would make the requests. Maybe that really was a marketing ploy or something initiated by someone involved with the film.
While the focus is to eliminate pirating of whole films for personal use or profit, the MPAA's stance is that any recording of MPAA member films in whole or part is illegal and should be stopped and not supported. This is according to my local rep.
Just what I know on the topic. South Florida has been a hot bed for pirating in the past.
