I'm going to assume that they did not go back in the modeling application and re-render with off-set camera angle's to give true 3D like Avatar.
Even when you model in 3D "space", you view the modeling on a 2D monitor and render to a 2D frame. If they want "Avatar 3D", they would need to render the movie twice with camera off-sets, then interlace the frames.
