I have seen 20 films released in theatres last year so far, a little lower than usual. Looking over the BOM 2015 charts, I see 36 films which grossed over $500,000 which I'd see if they were showing down the block today. The highest grossing film I have not heard of (or have no recollection of) is "The Perfect Guy," which ws released in September, and made a little over $57M in North America.
I may yet see "Anomalisa," "45 Years," "Carol" and "The Lady in the Van," among movies still in theatres here.
I found "Sicario," "Inside Out," "Spotlight," "Brooklyn," "Room," "Ex Machina," "The Big Short" and "It Follows" completely absorbing. "Lambert & Stamp." too. I enjoyed "Mad Max: Fury Road," and I respect its commitment to on-location shooting. I respect the commitment "The Revenant" made to this principle, too, but I enjoyed it less. For all of its interest in immersion, I thought its first 15 minutes were its best, and otherwise felt restless. My top 10, then, would include...
Sicario
Inside Out
Room
Brooklyn
Ex Machina
Spotlight
