in response to tealfan's post thx
if memory serves, isn't there usually a survey of theater owners at CinemaCon of what movies they're now excited about & ones they're not?..

Variety or THR usually do that, so far they haven't. Probably because so far there hasn't been anything particularly mind blowing.

ERC tweeted this am that 'SONY ignored all their August releases completely....Searching, Alpha, and Slenderman, that says it all'

As Ed Douglas and others noted in the reply, Searching was just picked up from Sundance. Absence means nothing.

At least one of them is likely to be moved. I doubt Sony would release 3 films in a month or 4 in 6 weeks (Equalizer on 7/20)

Alpha and Slenderman lack stars that are trotted out on stage in front of exhibitors.

Disney didn't bring any stars on stage, they just brought the films to speak for themselves, very different than SONY ignoring completely

Disney's slate is all blockbusters based on familiar IPs.

you can still show a new trailer or footage like most other genre movies with little or no cast with a wide release on the schedule.

That was my point, either trot out stars or highlight the films, but to just ignore completely doesn't seem too promising IMO
