Call me cynical, but I don't think they make up a big share of the general audience ;)

But to elaborate, the first Nemo was about a father/son relationship with the father as the main character. The main audience was fathers, who related most to the story, and younger children who liked the colours and the fish. Obviously lots of different people watched the movie and liked it, but if you're looking for people who emotionally resonated with the movie (rather than those who said "I really enjoyed the movie" and then never watched it again) it's those two groups.

While the first Incredibles was more broadly relatable - it was about real people, parents and children, going through normal problems - a boring job, feeling like they don't fit in at school, etc - who also happen to be superheroes, which is a pretty common secret fantasy, plus the general theme is "how do you be special when society wants you to be ordinary?", which I think is a near-universal feeling. This movie was targeted at parents - mothers and fathers - and children - boys and girls - old enough to be in school. There's a much bigger pool of people who strongly connected with the Incredibles than those who connected with Finding Nemo.

Incredibles 2 $18.5m in previews. Tag $1.325m MattW Jun 15, 07:53

Yowza! That nearly doubles Nemo's previews! Massive weekend ahead. {nm} RollingThunder Jun 15, 07:58

Disney SJW FTW! {nm} slipping jimmy Jun 15, 08:00

Dory did $9.2m, so a bit more than double. Dory did 14.6x previews, how low is reasonable for this? 9*18.5 = 166 (!) {nm} MattW Jun 15, 08:04

I had $9.4m for Dory, but doesn't matter, still...Incredible. {nm} RollingThunder Jun 15, 08:05

I guess you could say that preview number was...(•_•) / ( •_•)>⌐■-■ / (⌐■_■) Incredible... islndr Jun 15, 08:05

DAMN!! {nm} lobogotti Jun 15, 08:29

I'm rooting for $200m, l {nm} RollingThunder Jun 15, 08:35

Lol {nm} RollingThunder Jun 15, 08:35

could this be a little more front loaded by the geeks since it's superheroes instead of cute fish? {nm} tealfan Jun 15, 10:08

Definitely see it being more frontloaded than Nemo. Combined with a 5pm start time for previews, $70m Friday is not guaranteed. {nm} RollingThunder Jun 15, 10:13

For sure, because using Dory's multiplier means $270M OW. {nm} Antibody Jun 15, 10:23

My take is that kids who watched NCRDB are coming out to see NCRD2 now they are grown up. RogerMore Jun 15, 10:50

Or just people who love amazing films... skunkrunner Jun 15, 11:31

Sounds like you have quite a list. I enjoyed the first but rewatching it lacked the same magic for some reason. RollingThunder Jun 15, 11:39
