those cute little bunnies are hell, they are loss, grief, and they are all that's left. And Abigail created all this, put herself there permanently; she will reside there with Anne and that's it. Anne, Abigail, the bunnies.
Sarah and Anne had a great love and working friendship in a highly dysfunctional world. Abigail's shenanigans put an end to all of it; but instead of putting Abigail herself into a better situation, her actions kill anything that was worth living for in Anne's world. Of course Abigail has nothing to give Anne; no true friendship, no love, there's no "there" there. Anne recognizes this too late. Sarah's banishment leaves Anne crushed with nothing left of her world but her loss, her grief, her sadness....her bunnies.
And they're multiplying.
Those bunnies (that grief and loss, that hell) will continue to grow and become all consuming. That's why earlier Sarah had commented that the bunnies were morbid or macabre or words to that effect; she didnt' believe those bunnies were helping Anne in her grief and sorrow. They only made things worse. And now the rabbits are all that's left. And Abigail will live under Anne's boot heel. She's created this living hell for Anne, now she's stuck in it with her forever.
Etcetera.
One of the many things I loved was the reaction of Anne in the face of humor and beauty; several times her reaction was pure anger and sadness. The scene at the dance, the scene when Anne is crossing the broad hallway and hears the beautiful music outside; her deep sense of tragedy and loss manifests in the face of these things. And her immense sadness is also reflected in her fading physical health, which seems to come and go as the battle of wits waxes and wanes.
I really can't wait to catch this again. Sometimes the first viewing only whets the appetite for the gold that's still buried there, waiting to be unearthed lol.
