There are real dollars and livelihoods (not to mention lives) at stake. If theaters open soon and are demonstrated to have been reckless, how many families will develop a lifetime habit of investing in large screens and streaming services at home?
A 70-inch television was $599 at Costco a week or two ago. That's fewer than 10 theater visits for a family. (I just checked . . . there is a 70-incher for sale at $499 at this moment, and a half-dozen 75 or larger under $1,000. A salesman told me he's selling holiday-level volumes of large screens these days.)
Delta House may consider putting a 10- or 12-seat screening room in the basement.
The brotherhood of Delta Tau Chi does not dislike theaters. It is objecting to lethally reckless yahoos.
Think about that. The Deltas are worried about some people being too stupid.
