Lots of really good info in this thread:Â http://www.worldofkj.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=55322&sid=a8f55bac88c0bca529c4b079cecd6ae3&start=13525.
Demon Slayer is a monster these days -- the series was popular before the anime came out last year, but the TV show sent the manga into the absolute stratosphere and turned it into the hottest media property in Japan. From November to May, the top 19 selling manga tankoubon (a bound volume) in Japan were Demon Slayer volumes with it making up 21 of the top 24 positions (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2020-05-28/top-selling-manga-in-japan-by-volume-2020/.159994). It is hard to fathom that a movie could be setting records during the pandemic, but it seems like Demon Slayer could end up doing $50m this weekend if we compare it to Frozen II which did $17m. If you have Hulu, I highly recommend checking it out.. it's a lot of fun!
The movie will release, theoretically, in the US next year.. it will be a big hit (relatively) if the box office is open as normal.
