Apple and Amazon still have money to spend on something like this (or to outright buy MGM) because they make so much money from other ventures. Amazon has probably made so much money since the pandemic started that they could probably outright buy Amazon... but hopefully they'd do so to have more theatrical releases and have a stronger theatrical arm compared to their last and most recent attempts.
