The question is does the hands off approach of Florida has led to 46,000+ deaths, 2300+ recorded last week work? If it does, then New York

and other states that have pushed vaccinations will see a massive wave like Florida. We can only hope that vaccinating 70%+ of the population slows this thing down. If there is no huge wave of positives and deaths in highly vaccinated states, then the DeSantis approach will be repudiated and his political career will take the route that Trump's did. But one rumor is that Biden is releasing illegal immigrants in to Republican states to infect the people...yeah...whatever.

Florida is doing badly still. 129,000+ positives IS down from three weeks of 150,000+. It is important to note that 18.2% of those new positives are in children 12 and under and that was the highest percentage for an age group. Deaths have gone 1400+, 1700+ to 2300+ in the last three weeks. Florida Health Dept. changed the way they note the weekly death rate from the number recorded as Covid to the number recorded that expired in just the last week. They should report both numbers if they wanted consistency and did not worry about optics.

I suspect positives in Florida will go down this week due to Labor Day and then will go slightly up the week after. Oh, floks 65+ have finally begun representing a smaller and smaller number of deaths. There were about 650,000 unvaccinated in that group and I think 3000+ have been recorded as deaths in the last 3 weeks.

So, Paramount is betting on a bad Covid winter. The others are standing pat for now. Let's hope this vaccine proves its worth. I can get a booster in November.  =)

So... if you make a good movie... and you only release it in theaters... it will do really well. Fascinating. TheWeekendWarrior Sep 04, 08:33

No excuse to put ENCNT and ETRNL on D+ now. {nm} Antibody Sep 04, 08:35

I'd usually agree but COVID got really bad last year in Oct/Nov/Dec so the spike we're seeing now may just be the beginning. TheWeekendWarrior Sep 04, 08:42

CA/NY have largely been hands off since June due to political reasons for their Governors as well... notfabio Sep 04, 14:23

though at the county level LA & SF have been more proactive than Newsom statewide (mask mandate since 7/18 in LACo) cake boss! Sep 04, 16:47

Same with Diblasio. Everyone at my packed IMAX screening of Shang-Chi had to prove they'd been vaccinated and everyone wore a mask. TheWeekendWarrior Sep 05, 12:43

Ok...really DeSantis' approach is not hands off...since he is actively opposing mandates with executive orders. He's pro-virus. ;-) {nm} Catzan Sep 06, 09:13

FASCINATING! Spock Sep 04, 08:44

Or release it when there are no other major movies being released right now? {nm} fourstars Sep 04, 17:30

(will be interesting to see if there is a big disparity between CA/NY and places like FL/TX/MO) probably could have been $100m+ cake boss! Sep 04, 10:11

how do you think Austin's gonna be in say . . . six weeks? cake boss! Sep 04, 19:10

who knows? We're gonna have to live with this forever so we're getting used to the new normal. {nm} Moviesnob Sep 04, 20:54

We got our boosters this week so that helps us {nm} Moviesnob Sep 04, 20:56

after the pandemic, do you think studios will give more consideration to releasing big movies on Labor Day weekend?...or probably not? {nm} tealfan Sep 04, 18:16

the whole month of August used to be a dumping ground for the dogs but now it’s not so they could cake boss! Sep 04, 18:37

After the pandemic, won't more people be going away for Labor Day instead of staying at home? {nm} fourstars Sep 05, 07:56
