Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Michael Cunningham, The Hours explores one dark day in the lives of three different women connected through the literary character of Virginia Woolfe's Mrs. Dalloway. Nicole Kidman plays the author, Julianne Moore is a 1950s housewife reading her book, and Meryl Streep is a modern-day Dalloway readying a party for a dying former lover. Paramount's top Oscar contender was already recognized as the best movie of 2002 by the National Board of Review, and screenwriter David Hare's fine adaptation has earned critical raves.
